Want to get involved with rapier fighting? Late in the period covered by the SCA, the art of the fence had become fashionable. Rapier fighters use a long blade (blunted for safety) and an off-hand implement to emulate styles taught by classical fencing masters. Protective face shields (typically a standard fencing mask) are worn as well as protective padded clothing. Myrgan Wood encourages men and women of all ages to participate. Loaner equipment is available. Please contact our current Rapier Champion, Ansel Derris, for more information and to arrange for lessons at practices.
The Baronial Champions are selected by tournaments held annually. The Champions attend Their Excellencies at court and are responsible for organizing the tournaments to choose their successors.
The title of Champion of Sword is awarded to the winner of the armoured combat tournament held each October at our Anniversary Event.
The title of Champion of Missile Combat is awarded to the winner of the missile weapons tournament held each October at our Anniversary Event.
The title of Rapier Champion is awarded to the winner of the rapier combat tournament held each May at our Spring Champions event.
The Knight Marshal organizes practices for our armoured combattants.
The Rapier Deputy organizes practices for rapier. Rapier includes fighting with a sword or with a sword and dagger.
The Missile Deputy organizes practices for missile combatants. This includes archery and thrown weapons.
For information about scheduled practices see the Myrgan Wood Homepage.
